Between Handel and Poulenc — and something else entirely Entre Haendel et Poulenc — et quelque chose d'entièrement autre
Writing an organ concerto means inevitably thinking of two works: the Handel concerti, with their classical economy, and the Poulenc Concerto for organ, strings and timpani, with its strange formal intensity. Between the minimalism of Handel and the formal peculiarity of Poulenc, it was necessary to find something.
Like the Poulenc, this is a concerto with string orchestra and timpani. But to this foundation Boisseau added a vibraphone, chimes, and small percussion instruments — new sound colours to blend with the organ. Like the Handel concerti, it is in three movements. And like both predecessors, everything is treated in a thoroughly classical manner. The work is tonal, and above all jubilant and affirming.
"Terribly classical — yes, I'm afraid so" « Bien classique — oui, j'en ai bien peur »
The day I thought about writing a concerto for organ and orchestra, I was led — no doubt as everyone who writes an organ concerto has been — to think of the Handel concerti and that of Poulenc.

That is why, as in the case of the well-known Poulenc work, this is a concerto with strings and timpani. In addition to the timpani, however, I decided to add also a vibraphone, chimes, and other small percussion instruments. Like the Handel concerti, it is in three movements.
Everything in this work is treated in a classical manner. But I tried to find, with the important vibraphone part in particular, new sound colours to blend with the organ.
The work is tonal and especially jubilant and affirming.
