This little suite of four short pieces was conceived for a portativ organ without pedals — a small instrument with a specific tonal character defined by its limited stoplist. It may also be performed on a large organ, on the condition that the instrument is treated as a Blockwerk: a single unified sonority, without the layered contrasts of a larger instrument.
Cette petite suite de quatre courtes pièces pour orgue a été conçue pour un positif sans pédalier. On peut aussi la jouer sur un grand orgue, à condition, dans ce cas, de traiter l'instrument comme un blockwerk : une sonorité unifiée, sans les contrastes stratifiés d'un grand instrument.

The performer should not change the registration in the course of each movement (the registrations given may, of course, be changed if necessary). If the performer wishes to play these works on two separate keyboards, it would be necessary to have the same registration on each keyboard (i.e. if mixtures on I, mixtures on II; reeds on I, reeds on II, etc.). If the performer is tempted to add an improvised pedal part, the composer would have no problem with that — if it were done with taste.
On ne doit en aucun cas changer de registration en cours de pièce (les indications de registration pourront bien entendu être transgressées). Si d'aventure, on souhaite jouer ces quatre pièces sur deux claviers, on peut le faire à condition de ne pas différencier les registrations d'un clavier à l'autre (ex : si mixtures sur le I, mixtures sur le II, anches sur le I, anches sur le II etc). Si la tentation se fait sentir d'ajouter une partie improvisée de pédale, l'auteur n'en prendra pas ombrage, si c'est fait avec goût.
One could also, to be chic, change the order of the pieces in the manner of the works of the 1960s and 1970s — but, between us, would that really be necessary?...
On pourrait, pour faire chic, comme dans les années 60/70, choisir l'ordre d'exécution de ces quatre pièces, mais, entre nous, est-ce vraiment utile ?
